Nappy (feat. Sarafina)

from Prodigal Son: The Anthology by Tim'm West

/

about

Tim'm met the incomparable Sarafina in 2007 during his stint in ATL and the performance art scene defined by spaces like Apache Cafe, Nappy offers a juxtaposition to the "Blakkboy Blue(s)" project since it celebrates black hair rather than remaining ambivalent or to its connection to Africa. On the Blakkboy Blue(s) project, Tim'm wrote a song called "Unloc'd"; a India Arie inspired "I am not my hair" for brothas who've cut locs as Tim'm has multiple times over his two decades of music making. Tim'm always grows them back. And so hair will continue to be an expression of a continuity of self-love, cut, loc'd, whatever. Sarafina's vocals beautifully compliment the lyricism here. Absolutely an anthem of Black Pride.
